Thursday...almost the end of November...I promised my self that this month I would purge the apartment of things I don't love or want...all the clutter that has accumulated over the years. So far I have only ridded the place of one not so large bag of clothes. The Hallway is full of recycling plus piles of direct tv equipment and broken things that I have a hard time putting in the trash.

Coinsidentally, There was a meeting here at CCNY to form committees to work on creating a sustainable campus. There are a number of committees: cirriculum, research, student affairs, procurement, facilities, planning+construction+renovation, transportation, waste management, auxiliary services+residence hall, communication+Public Education, and community affairs.

The hope is that each committee will have students
+ faculity involved...

There were three student clubs represented: NYPIRG, Sustainable CCNY, and green planet; pluspeople from Materials Exchange Developement Program (MEDP) which is funded by the city (through dept of sanitation?). Also, Carmelo Rodriguez from from the office of student services and (MIke?) from (?)who was running the powerpoint presentation.

On my way to this meeting Michelle stopped me outside the garden saying "I thought you were going to come through."
She and Geronimo were working moving dirt to raise the herb garden. I wished she had called me, cause I knid of want to help with that. Instead I spent the morning watching Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down which is my pick for sexiest movie I have seen this very sexy year.

Yesterday, efore going to meet Mitch at the Humanities Library for the Kerouac Exhibit, I was asked by someone from ICLA? ICLA? to volunteer to donate bone Marrow. I said I would think about it. While I was thinking about it and reading "The Paper"

I thought maybe I would try to reach and write an article about bone marrow in relation to me and things I care about (universal single payer health care, environmentalism, not losing my apartment, non-profit organizations that really help people, separation of church and state, etc.) The (really beautiful) young woman at the table was super nice and in about 2 minutes touched on about twenty good medically related topics.

Today I went to a meeting about environmental jobs. Speakers Mario Paula from the EPA, Dr. James Wang from environmental defense.org, Raphael Rodriguez from U. S. Geological Survey NY Water Science Center, and William C. Schwab from U.S.G.S. Woods Science Center spoke for an hour and a half to a packed room of over 80 people.


I almost for got to mention (drumroll PPause) After seen the (amazing) Kerouac show at the (amazing) Humanities Library, I went out and bought a paper shredder. (I've been thinking of paper mache)

Alreadly this has given me hours of entertainment and pleasure as I shred everything fromwatchtower handouts, toletters from debt collectors, to advertisements for Kohls and the MomA Design Store. When I made the impulse buy, I thought I was being all environmental PC...now I realize that it is yet another gulty, plastic pleasure that runs on electricity:( Please let me know if you need/want some pretty packing material.

ok...A while back My friend and Strand Co-worker Karen McMaron signed me up a with this Meryl Zega-something P.R. group she was working for and started sending me frre books to review. For the most part, the books have been pretty bad. But I love getting mail, especially in bubble wrap-lined manilla envelopes with lots of cool looking stamps. So I feel like saying thanks Meryl Z. and at least saying something about some of these books...not all of which are horrible.

The Alpine Fantasy of Victor B, is a nice looking anthology of fiction by British artists. I am a HUGE fan of short fiction and I might actually read some of these. The little I have read has not repulsed me.

Kath Trevelyan a novel by Jeremy Cooper is pretty bad. I was optimistic after the first sentence but that is where the love affair ended:(

Winged Wonders A celebration of Birds in Human History I am keeping around as an amusing reference book. And we all know that reference books are the best kind of books to keep around. I don't think I would pay money for this but I guess one of the authors works with/for oxfam and the UN...those Ihave heard good things about.

Looks like MTA is proposing fare hikes again...I am looking at this 2008 plan and trying to figure out how n...n..nine billion dollars annually is not enough.

Looks likethere is a billion dollar debt service(?)...a billion dollar healthcare plan, four million in overtime, and four million in "other fringe benefits" that the the the $9,853,000,000 in revenue+subsidies can not quite cover. Therfor, the proposed regressive tax/fare hike.

Today I slept in...made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich...listened to the brian lehrer show...worked on the big watercolor drawing...schlepped over to CCNY to the sustainability club bake sale...went to the library to look at art books...went to another very odd physics lecture...read the NYPress while wolfing down French fries and a peanutbutter bagle...and cam down here to update the blog.

Things are picking up here. I've been spending time at City College, here in the Student Technology Support Center which is shaped like an amplatheater(sp?) that looks out on the entrance to the (NAC) North Academic? Center...I took a temp job at the bookstore which is a Follett store. http://www.follett.com/ It reminds me of Long's....But Much smaller (the branch , not the business) and with a more ethnically diverse staff. I like it because I can see what all the professors are assigning.

When I was working at Long's people would speculate about what would happen when Doc Long died. Some bets were on Follett taking over but I guess B+N bid higher. It also has the feel of the old Co-op Bookstore but apparently without the perks...at least for temp workers. It bears no resemplence to Strand. I find my self missing the easy-going-ness (for lack of a better word) of the cashiers at Strandwhile I am being "trained" by a Mussolini(sp?)-like young person who refered to me as "sweety" until she realized that I'm not that sweet.

Sylvia Netzer has been a godsend. I got to spend some time talking to her about time-lines, birthdays, clay, love, painful losses and art while she contructed her organ...organic growth-like forms. Her insight and criticism has me thinking more three diimentionally. She leaves amazing examples around the classroom of better ways of doing things...other possibilities.

I came to Bryant Park to meet up with Sam, the guy who was watching my place while I was in Ohio and my neighbor and his family who is visiting from England. They are showing Casablanca. It is so very, very crowded here I I gave up looking for them in favor of checking e-mail.

Dave says there is a free show at Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater tonight so I may head over there for that soon.

It is so very nice and cool here. I got tired of sweating and came here to my local library to cool off and check my messages.

I'm listening to Le Show from last Sunday...Harry Shearer is talking about Something that happened in Saudi Arabia. I wasn't listening that closely because I was frustrated with trying to figure out why my skype connection isn't working. Now I'm trying to update it.

I had a really nice flight back. There was a beautiful sunset. The Pilots took their time which is good when there is what seems to be a Simpsons channel on the tv. They did some crazy big turns when we got close to the city, so at a couple of points my window was pointed directly at the ground. That was fun.

The apartment was a bit of a mess. The bathroom ceiling fell again...so...now we have to clean the debris that falls from the hole before taking showers.

I had a great time at the family reunion Sunday. (Is one of my mom's cousins on a soap opera???)

Hello...I've been in Ohio for about a week now. I missed my flight and ended up riding with John Mc Cain...tres bizarre! Anyway...I made it and S. M. picked me up and wisked me off to hilliard for the best vegetarian indian food buffet ever...then we went to see Evan Almighty which was diverting...your typical freshman-senator-grows-a-beard-and-builds-an-ark hollywood formula.

since then I've been hanging out with my grandmother's and various relatives.
In my rush to leave, I forgot to pack enough underwear...so I went on a spending spree and got heaps of new bras and undies! Pretty exciting! And I bought some running shoes...I am hoping to lose ten pounds this week.

There is a new Half Price Books in the neighborhood...so I've been jogging over there and getting some books...One on the philosophy of law and one called Camp Concentration...by Thomas Disch

Yesterday my dad and his mom and I drove around looking at places they have lived and I got to see a house on S. warren that my upstairs neighbor's brother renovated. It is a really cute house for not too much $$...a short bus ride from down town. an especially good deal if you like shirtless, pot bellied neighbors:)

So Now I'm here at the awesome westerville library trying to order a fire hydrant adapter(or?)because Michelle says I am to blame for the loss of the garden's last one. Whatever...I just want to make sure I am ordering the right thing.

Sicko, Damages, Tenants and Neighbors

Yesterday I put some air in the Huffy tires and rode downtown to the Housing Court to pick up an audio recording of last Friday's hearing. I am starting to think that a class action lawsuit is in order. According to the Pro Se attorney's office in the housing court, the court that a tenant's association in this situation would go to would depend on what is being sought. If, as a group we are asking for damages over $25,000 we would go to the NYS supreme court and make our case there. I believe this company 545 W 146th street, Inc. has been negligent in maintaining the building, has falsified records and lied to state agencies in order to unlawfully increase rents, and has harassed tenants.

I hope that as a tenants association we can get help from the legal aid society in pursuing this case. This evening I think I will sit in the lobby and talk to people about problems in the building and how forming a tenants association could help.

Last night I went to see Sicko with Mitch. I left wishing I could move to France. or england or some civilized country that recognizes basic human needs as the right of every citizen. Throught out the film europeans and canadians are laughing at michael Moore's questions. How many sick days do you get from your job in France? Ha Ha Ha Ha??

Yesterday I went to the library to learn more about Factiva and how to search it for articles.

Today Judge Wendt dismissed the LL petition for Non-payment on the grounds that the DHCR registration was faulty. They had registered a second lease that apparently did not exist under the name of my roommate. Bernardo denied knowledge of the registration or a second lease. By law LLs are required to offer rent regulated tenants a renewal lease. It would be illegal for them to offer the lease to Bernardo and not to me as well.

Now I am back at 545 with my Neighbors, Sam and Jake hanging out till their mom gets home.

I feel pretty good about what happened except now I'm a little worried about going to Ohio for two weeks. I'm sure the LL will try to petition the court for eviction while I am not here to defend myself. I want to talk to tenants in the building about filing a class action suit as a tenant association. Maybe if we go on the offensive, with some help from legal aid we can get everyone's rents rolled back to what the should be and also get the building brought up to code.

I amused myself today during the long wait by trying to guess people's ethnicity. I think I am getting better at it.

Last night I went to a hearing of the Rent Guidelines Board where tenants and LL's were allowed to speak to ten members of the board. the board is appointed by the mayor and has raised rent stabilized rents by greater and greater percentages in recent years. most of the speakers were tenants calling for (pleading, demanding) a freeze in rent stabilized rents.A few LL's spoke in favor of rent increases.

Council member Jackson asked also for a freeze or failing that and small increase...but preferably a freeze.

Work has begun again on the bathroom in apt 47. I am hesitantly optimistic that we will soon have a clean, non-leaky, non-moldy place to pee and shower. I and compromising on the tiles. E. Ponce compromised on covering the old marble with concrete and we both agreed that an all porcelain sink is way better than the particle board thing that keeps getting water damaged.

Oh My god...I am getting chills hearing someone make so much sense. PLEASE see today's Democracy NOW in which Amy Goodman interviews Michael Moore about his health care film.

Whatever you may think of Moore, he is making so much sense I am almost in tears with happiness that someone is finally saying these things and sadness that so many people have suffered so long needlessly.

I SO miss the good health care I had access to at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. Finally, SOMEONE is doing a good job pointing out how barbaric the American (public? private? civil?) health care system is.

Wednesday I Met Benn at MNN and went down to this place on tenth Ave where I had seen a sign for this housing rally. Benn had to go to work, so I joined up with the Westside affordable housing advocates and we all went down to 14th street where there were thousands of poeple all supporting the idea that people have a right to affordable housing. I love that here and in San Franscisco communities have taken control of their local governments and enacted laws that benefit average citizens rather than for profit businesses and landowners.

I am sure at least one hundred important things have happened since last I posted here.Harmony had a housing court hearing...Samantha and I met with Mary Lighter in Queens...I found out I was NOT selected as an MFA canidate at CCNY this year...SOme big changes have happened in the garden including things sprouting and scaffolding going up against the wall of the old school. Harmony quit her job. I saw yet another free film and then another one. I cleaned the apartment (sort of)...Dave and I went to visit Mitch and watch the 400th episode of the Simpsons...I made another coconut/chocolate chip cake and ate it...Socorro and I went to a book talk at bluestockings regarding Sassy Magazine and how it changed the author's life...Socorro moved...I bought some plane tickets...I hung out with Deb and Tammy...old friends from San Antonio at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens...Jake learned how to spell R-E-A-D-Y...They painted some of the walls in the building I live in...I got an e-mail from Sylvia Netzer...I bought some watercolor paints and started sewing again....is that 100?

A few nights ago, Krishna, Lindon and I went to Cooper Union to see readings from Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove's book, Voices of a People's History of the United States. This is where I heard the best reading ever of Howl. It really was impressive.

Yesterday Adi and I went to Housing court. I was surprised that Bernardo showed up and with pictures...all fired up to make a case against 545 W 146th St, Inc. The judge saw the pictures and took our complaints seriously. She seemed very reasonable and fair. We scheduled a trial date for May 29th.

Earlier today I went to the Municipal Archives on Chambers St. to get a picture of the building from the tax files taken in the (30's?). you can see it here.

Now I'm at the library catching up on the blogging and e-mail and listening to a recording of our housing court trial from last November...the one the the LL's attorney dropped.

Mitch and I went for a walk to the park Saturday and came across a group of people rallying for support for impeachment. We missed the part where they spelled out IMPEACH in giant letters on the grass but were there for this phot0 op. The woman on the right is named Elizabeth. I spoke to her for a while about the organization, worldcan'twait.org.

Later i met up with dave and walked around looking at art fairs and taking pictures of the blooming trees. We ended up seeing Hot Fuzz in times square. It was pretty funny.

I've been back in NYC for about four days now...the rush is just starting to wear off...so far I have met up with Rob, Lindon, Blessing, Adi, Michelle, Krishna, Dave, Harmony, Jake, Samantha, Mary, Curtis, and Socorro...I went to my HTML class, stopped by CCNY, got my hair African braided by a beautiful woman in the library restroom, went to a class at the library about researching Architecture in NYC, saw a free screening of Superbad (which I have to admit was funny), walked by John Hodgeman and co (be still my heart!), ate at a nice thai spot, went to the legal aid office, saw the Barcelona exhibit at the Met and...well...I guess that's about it. This not watching TV thing is working out well.

I'm trying out this cute little tiny digital camera to see if is better than Dave's Nikon S9...it doesnt have the nikon's cool time lapse animation features but cost a bit less and makes avi video files which seem to work better with my pinnacle editing software than the realvideo files made by my mom's kodak. Ok...so I am thinking that (until recently) Kurt Vonnegut was a pretty good candidate for "Greatest Living American Novelist" with the possible exception of Toni Morrison, and, um...well at the moment I can't really think of anyone better. Is J. D. Salinger still alive? I really love Geek Love by Katherine Dunn but it isn't as universally appealing as Slaughterhouse-Five. Don DeLillo's earlier stuff is great but not as laugh-out-loud funny as Vonnegut.

Now that he's fallen, his books have to compete with those of Hemingway, Buck, Hawthorn, Bourroughs, Fitzgerald, Melville, Faulkner, Phillip Roth and Hunter S. Thompson all battles I feel Vonnegut would win hands down. Twain was pretty funny. He might have been better or as good.

For readers who were alive in '75, Vonnegut was pretty much the best...non? Too bad he isn't around to bring some humorous insight to VA this week.

Spending yet another day with Samantha and Jake...Jake is home with an ear infection. they are being kind of mellow which is good because I am trying to get the three things done that I didn't get done yesterday. (transcripts, cleaning, skirt.)

The transcripts are turning out to be more complicated that expected because osu is saying i owe them money and i can't just pay them i have to pay the ohio attorney general who is not answering the phone...arrgh...sigh...argh!

In other news, I can totally see why house wives tend to gain weight. It is very easy to eat and eat and eat when trapped in the apartment. Usually Harmony's friend Sarah comes over and gives me a break. I'm not sure if she's coming today or not. It is very cold so I can see why she might want to stay in.

Its offically February and I'm feeling 1, 000 times better now since my visit to Harlem Hospital. Watching Samantha and Jake and listening to studio 360...hoping to get three things done...order transcripts...clean my apartment...and finish the skirt I started.

Blessing Marima the teacher of my CS2 class let me take home a copy on my laptop. I haven't really done much with it yet but I'm hoping to use it to put together the 20 slides I need for the CCNY MFA application. Actually now that I think about it it might be better just to take 35mm slides than try to convert the digital...hmmm...well see how that goes. Seems sweetly archaic(sp?) somehow.

All this time with Sam and Jake is exhausting (exasperating). The big challange is not to get frustrated and angry with them. I think I am moving faster in the free time I do have and I am spending almost no money since I eat over here.

Its Saturday and I am feeling groggy and listless...(sans list?) This may it will have been 20 years since I graduated from high school. That realization hit me (like a...like a...wet terry cloth balloon?) last night. Twenty years seemed some how an impossibly, implausably(sp?)long time. Have I even been alive that long? I guess so...the numbers don't lie.

This morning on WBAI they played Lean On Me our class song...then, Eric Bogosian was talking about 1987 and what a strange year that was. I guess they are doing a play of Talk Radio now. He seemed to be saying it was a bizarre un-play-like play. He talked about how talk radio has changed since then...The advent of Rush Limbaugh and what not. I've been thinking about the history of animation...wouldn't that be a fun class/workshop to teach or attend? I started trying to do some stop motion stuff with coins and Samantha next door who I've been watching while her opera singer mom is starting a new career as an EMT.

I FINALLY got some $$ from the NYS Dept of Labor. (Huge sigh of relief) I was really starting to get nervous as savings account #2, the money I was saving for back rent...drained down to almost nothing. Now I am getting $200 per week from the Dept of Labor...more than enough to live on since I'm not paying rent at the moment. The landlord has yet to serve me with a new petition...looks like they are trying to make some repairs though...Apts 47 and 46 smell like death now...I guess because someone put down some rat poision (sp?)...The smell in 46 is unbearable.

I'm here at the Hamilton Grange Library on 145th...listening to music and trying to get three important things accomplished: Taxes, Grad School Application, and Unemployment Benefits.

This morning I woke up late and tried to make crepes while watching link tv...there was no milk so I thought I could substitute coconut milk...turns out that doesn't work so well...they kept sticking to the pan.

Last night I went to Blue Stockings to see the makers of Fifth Estate Magazine speak...I didn't really know what that was...turns out its an anarchist magazine the title is meant to suggest an alternative to the established media...afterwards I had tea with Mitch then splurged on a ticket to see Pan's Labyrinth at the Sunshine. When I was looking at the movie posters a woman walked by and said, "Pan's Labyrinth is fantastic." She was right. It was fantastic.

Hi...I'm sitting in Bryant Park using the wireless internet...tis a bit chilly but really not so bad...I hear Austin and LA are colder...which is odd...non?

So today I went down to 40 Rector Street to give my testamony(sp?) about how the police verily barged into Ben's apartment the oter night. I'm glad I went. I didn't even know about the citizens complaint takers thereabouts...the investigator took our stories seperately and yada yada yada...According to their own report, 5% of complaints are found to be justified.

After that Ben walked with me to B&H where I hoped to see about the warranty on my camera...we talked about civil rights and solidarity and got kind of stuck on the subject of whether or not bush and cheney are human...Ben maintained that there is room for doubt...but for the sake of moving on...finally conceeded(sp?).

B&H closed early today...so we got a bite to eat and walked to thebusiness/science research Library where I tried to use the laptop...for some reason they don't have the same wireless connection there as other NYPL's. It was an ethernet wire which seemed to connect to this laptop physically ok but i couldn't figure out how to connect electronically...so here i am out in the cold waiting for Mitch who might stop by in the next ten minutes...although i kind of doubt it at this point.

Yesterday was Jamal's Birthday, so he and Sarah and Dot and I went to Lemongrass and emptied our wallets. Lemongrass at its new location (13th near University) has AMAZING lighting and decor AND there is a great Kareoke (sp?) bar downstairs. (Careful though, the bartender may bite.)

So...the Japanese exhibit and postcard class at 42st library inspired me to do some drawing. There were so many beautiful examples of drawing and printing...and the idea of the new year post card appealed to me. so I think I will spend the day drawing.

Well today is already turning out to be far better than yesterday...the hot water is on...the sun is out...I think I will go to the class on japanese postcards at the 42nd street library...I did not get up early and go to the Workforce One Center but I can do that next week. Point is: I feel good and I got a shower (finally) and washed some dishes and I am psyched (had some coffee too.)

Also after spending an entire day on freaking MySpace yesterday (that thing is addictive.), I figured some things out and made some MySpace "friends" (I put that in quotes because I really only know Lisa and Dave. I did make "friends" with a guy at OSU who knows Chris Coake and also likes Stephen Dixon (among many others). Now my profile features the wonderful music of my new favorite band tunng. If you notice a preponder(ance?)(ence?) of Jennifers amongst my "friends" it is because I have vowed to try to befriend all jennifer johnsons on MySpace. These are the type of idea one comes up with when there is no job to go to and no hot water with which one might shower and then depart the apartment and it's too bleepin cold to get out from under the blankets...ok I am feeling a little guilty/shameful about spending an entire day on MySpace and trying to make excuses for my self.

Well...i am freezing as it is finally starting to feel like winter here and the super hasn't decided to turn on the heat. My friend in San Antonio, Lisa asked me to sign up for Myspace account last month which I did then promptly forgot my password...I figured it out today and tried to make the page look less generic but could not figure out how to do it and all the flashing ads were making me nauseous. I did notice that STRAND had a site...which seems signifigantly less nausiating than the generic start up site. I love Lisa but I don't think I have the fortitude to tolerate all the adds long enough to figure out how to make them go away.

If you do have a MySpace page and want to A) be "friends" or B) tell me how to lose the vomit inducing ads please contact me with this information as soon as possible!

Ok...Its the second week of the new year...I'm unemployed...I haven't paid rent in over six months...I have an application to CCNY Graduate School to fill out....I'm going to a class at the library tonight called: Mecanografia y Teclado...I'm taking sometime to explore Manhattan and write about it for the NY blog...I just got a letter form the IRS saying I owe them over $200 for some money market account I had forgotten about. I am waiting (still) to see some $$ from the NYS unemployment benefits program...I am planning to continue the Photoshop class through UAW...I'm waiting to hear from the "Made in NY" program to see if I can take advantage of the PA training they offer...I'm hoping to spend some time cooking and dumsterdiving with the NYfreegans...I'm looking for five or ten people who want to start a new art co-op or to find a cool art co-op that will have me...I applied the work at Housing Works and am waiting to hear back from them...I want to re-write my resume and apply to the NYPL...this morning I started mapping a walking/biking route for the west side of Manhattan. There is a warm cat sitting on my foot and it feels really comfortable to be inside on what sounds like a rainy afternoon, none the less I am trying to motivate myself to get up and go outside.

Hey! I just ran into Socorro's friend Ben at the library. He says all signs are "Go." for tomorrow night. Tonight I plan to see the final show of Strictly Platonic at the pussy cat lounge...I think Dave and Jamal and maybe Lindon will go too.

I'm back at the library feeling a bit like a monster with my disfigured face but otherwise pretty good...I wasn't selected to be a red hat person at MoMA's Doug Aitken event (que lastima) but life goes on...I am here for a computer class called "Viruses, Hackers, and Spam...Oh, My!" the class was good...a little slowerpaced than other classes but good none the less...I remebered somebasinc things I had been told before about computer maintenance...now I'll go nhome and defrag or scan something.

I am going to try writing for this nyblog...just for fun. Last night dave and I went walking around Penn station so I could have something to write about.

New Years Eve was a really good/memorable one...Dave and Jamal and I spent the day practicing a production of a very short play from Incidences (Daniil Kharms) called...oh what was it called? comprehensive research! It was very fun and Dave must have died about ten or fifteen times...every time, I got to check his pulse and pick up his hand and let it drop while Jamal declaired he was in fact dead. Once, a couple came up to us and asked if he was ok. Later we danced and rang the new year in in central park...barefoot (or...well...in stocking feet.) It is oddly not cold here...several natives have confirmed that this is NOT normal weather for NY.

Then we walked around a bit...I found some metal bars on the ground that looked like they had been sawed off of on of the metal police road barriers and was delighted to hit anything that might make a good noise...turns out to be the best...

Back at the library after the interview...I'm not really holding my breath, but kind of...I want the job more now than before the interview...especially since I found out about the hand warmers and walkie talkies...Last night Arnaldo from the freegan-list serve came over and had a chat with Bernardo...That went better than expected as well...Arnaldo was calm and assertive and not intimidated by Bernardo...we drank some hot Airbourne and talked a little about reality and what we want/expect to happen there...Seems we may be able to come up with some solutions. He's an agressively positive thinker (wee bit of suspision about that.) I'll try not to hold that against him.

In spite of the Airborne I woke up with a swollen lip (Herpes...arrgh!) this morning...It has been a long time since this has happened...I want to blame it on the peanuts I ate...ahhh...So...now I have a bit of a head ache and am debating about whether or not to go the the gym.

This morning I got up relatively early to go down to the WorkForceOne center on 125th street...at 8:45 people were already lined up outside the Apollo theater...the theater that launched James Brown's career...The were singing "get on up" and dancing trying to stay warm I guess...News vans lined the street...in the orientation for the job center someone said they were still driving the body up from Augusta, GA.

Last night I got a manila envelope from DHCR that I thought might contain the answer to the overcharge question. Before I opened it I thought "oh...god this could be it." This could be my salvation or damnation. If they decide there is an overcharge...I might be getting some money back from the owners if they decide there is not an overcharge or I filed my claim too late then I may be evicted.

It turned out to be a copy of the owner's response and not decision. There was a copy of a lease signed by Chiek Tall and a handwritten statement from (Mr. Nabavi.?) someone...it's hard to read the signature.

It is the last thursday of 2006 and I am back at the library about to use the pay phone to call the unemployment office and see if my claim has been denied or processed yet. If it has that might effect the urgency of my job search.

IF this weather holds up I think I'll go for a bike ride tomorrow.

Hi...I'm at the library again...checking the e-mail...on my way to the gym...I wish I had something interesting to write about...I got an e-mail from MoMA about a potential temporary job it is for one month being a sort of usher outside...wearing a red hat...meanwhile this film below will be playing on the windows of MoMA...I would like to do it but it would mean I could not do the "Made in NY" PA training program I applied for yesterday...maybe I will go for the interview and see how that goes.

Still waiting to see what became of the unemployment benefits...Jeanette suggested going down to the office which I did today...they told me to call the hotline...I did find out that they offer all kinds of job services there like resume writing...I think I will try to go to that tomorrow.

I am on my way to the gym to swim off some of this hot chocolate...spent some time on craigslist last night looking at job postings and am feeling optimistic. There is a guy next to me here at thelibrary who keeps muttering about people who come to the library to talk...he just told the people next to him to go back to Africa even though they are clearly American...I think he might be homeless...anyway I hope things this side of x-mas are at least as good as they were before.

It's wednesday and I'm back at the library...there was a class about job searching on the internet. It was less fun and uplifting than the leo class...kind of depressing really...but I did learn some things that I can use if Dell and Dave can help me get this laptop re-connected.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a big day on wall street. Ben, Socorro's friend who helped me with my housing court trial is going down there with hundreds of friends to protest...Police brutality and imperialism...curtailed civil liberties and whatnot.

People on WBAI have been talking about the trouble getting permits and the absurdity of the law that says that any group of people going anywhere together need a permit to walk down the street together. In a wierd way I kind of empathize with the police in that mobs make me nervous too. But my experience with previous anti-war marches here is that even permitted protesters are not treated well by police. An some very illegal things seem to have been done when police arrested protesters and held them in warehouses for days...not to mention the recient case of excessive force. Someone made a good point about police allowing different things in different neighborhoods...protecting some people and some property more than others. Anyway, I hope cops will be respectful of people and vice versa.

I'll be sitting this one out...except maybe as an observor.

Hi...I am back here at the public library using the computer after taking a great class on LEO...the on-line library catalog. The class was good. Now I am very psyched about all the possibilities here at the library and in the city. The person who taught the class is also in charge of the job resource center downstairs.

Last night was the begining of my new self inflicted excercise program at the rec center...I swam for about an hour. At first I thought I could swim for two hours but after five minutes I changed my mind. I plan to go back tonight and swim some more. It felt really good. I don't know why I haven't been doing that all along.

I just bought a new swimsuit from american apparel two days ago and not three hours after I bought it I saw an article called "american apparel exposed" in adbusters

On my way here today I started thinking I would end this blog this year and start a new, improved blog for 2007. One with a daily comic. One that I would write more thoughtfully and carefully...now I'm not sure...maybe I could just add a daily comic and write more carefully here...I guess that is not the premise of this blog though...we'll see. Things are in a state of flux. I feel optimistic yet unsure of things.

The computers at then Hamilton Branch weren't working and for some reason my laptop is no longer getting a wireless signal...so I am here at the 42nd street branch checking my e-mail...the atmosphere here is really busy...and yet oh so quiet...I love it...the energy is contagous.

So I only have a short time to write...I really don't have much to say...I bought some more of the great fuzzy pink fabric I found last week near mid-town comics...still looking for a job...put in some applications yesterday...today maybe I will work on a resume...the one I have now is hand written.

Ok...so I've made a little resume-esque thingy and I am about to go around littering manhattan with copies of this...work experience: Strand, UHAB, Habitat, Half Price, Drexel...hopefully someone will find me worthy of doing some sort of grunt work for at least eight dollars an hour...36 (did I say thirty-six? I meant thirty-seven...damn...I should be collecting social security soon.) year old college graduate and I have yet to break the 20K mark. I guess because I keep trying to get jobs with perks like free movies, and cheep books. Also, all those years of food service and childcare did not exactly catapult me to the top of any pay scales.

I'm going to try Mid town Comics because Jamal recommended it and the Drama Bookstore because it is close to mid town comics...and it's a bookstore...maybe some theaters or bookstores around Lincoln center...we'll see.

in other news...

Ever since I committed to spending an hour a day to cleaning the apartment it is looking pretty good...Someone still thinks it's ok to leave his dishes and pans in the sink but instead of getting pissed off, I just take them out and put them on the floor...I don't want him to think he can leave them there for me to clean like that.

I have also made a point of talking to the neighbors more. It really helps that Harmony lets me come over and hang out and do laundry and sometimes gives me money for watching Sam and Jake. It help too that we are not paying rent until the court makes a judgement on the overcharge and breach of warranty of hability and needed repairs.

Problems can be solved and we will have a nice place to live in 2007...vamos a ver...(crossing fingers.)

This weekend (I think) there are plans to do a street theater version of the Nutcracker...This should be really fun and hysterical...please e-mail me if you want to do this...bring a tu-tu if you have one.

I'm at the library using my laptop...it's so nice to have a strong wireless signal instead of the sketchy unreliable frustrating one i get at the apartment. sigh. I am trying out linux for a change and something about it is really turning me on. Not just that it's not microsoft...it's also that it is reminding me of old computers i used in college but faster.

Anyway I am off to talk to Horace at the UAW and maybe to Mid-town comics to apply for a job. I am happy because I think I may get into grad school at CCNY next fall (if not in art then maybe history or urban anthropology, or math.)

Things are a little slower without a phone...I kind of like that. T-mobile still sucks.

I'm trying a new thing where i actually plan my day...I guess I got some things accomplished as a result. I'm spending and hour or two cleaning in the morning then going to the library to check email then doing laundry, going by CCNY to get a new grad school applicaton...visiting with my neighbor...and hanging out at Harmony's with Sam and Jake. Jake even finished all his homework. Amazing! Now they are sleeping and I am updating this blog. Wow...this is an exceptionally boring post. oh well...at least it is something.

Last night Lindon, Jamal, Dave and I went to see the new Pedro Almadovar film, VOLVER. It was funny and sweet-but-not-too-sweet. It has an almost entirely female cast and they were all great. The choice had been between HISTORY BOYS and VOLVER...I am glad we saw VOLVER. It was the right chioce. Still wouldn't mind seeing HISTORY BOYS though.

Arrgh...the aggrivation continues...t-mobile must die...they disconnected my phone spitefully fast as soon as i told them i had no intention of paying the superhigh bill they charged me with.

Arrrgh...arrgh...arrgh...this on the heals of Strandbooks forcing me to sign their "Agreement and General Release"...basicly signing away my first amendment rights in order to collect unemployment....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr why are businesses so horrible? Are there no good businesses out there that don't try to screw people over?

And that on the heels of two weeks in court with my LL who wants to pretend like he's never heard of rent regulation. or building codes. Arrrgh!

I can not believe how angry I was this morning...Now I understand how people can drive planes and trucks into buildings and feel no remorse. I felt so reamed by T-mobile. I feel relieved now to be rid of them. They were not bad for a while but then the abuse started. Now I say, "T-mobile, out of my life!"

Whew! it's a relief really...like ending a relationship gone sour. I have a new lease on life.

This on the heals of Strand and their "Release and General Agreement" in which I am supposed to wave my first amendment rights in exchange for what? A neutral letter and the right to claim unemployment. Arrgh! Thank god for the 12th clause...million dollar clause...the humour clause...the sanity clause. (ha!) ("but i thought there was no sanity clause.")

Anywho...I am home, a little depressed listening to music i borrowed from Jack Young and hoping someone will come over and hang out later thusly giving me a reason to clean the apartment.
